Last year, I took a trip to Seattle with my friend Mayeena. The gloomy skies, rainfall, picturesque views and her company made for the perfect combination. Like many tourists, we strolled around the city, took photos and searched for places to eat. One of our favorite hobbies was exploring restaurants because both of us enjoy trying out new cuisines.

After visiting the Space Needle, we deliberated over places for dinner. We decided to go to this Lebanese restaurant called “Tanoor.” Because our mutual friend Seema recommended it, we were eager to give it a go.

Shortly after being seated, the server brought us some pita bread with olive oil. As soon as we tore off a piece of the bread, dipped it into the oil and popped it into our mouths, we knew we made the right decision.

And because both of us were famished, we ordered two entrees of the chicken shawarma combos, mini flatbreads baked with ground meat and fries topped with a thick layer of whipped garlic sauce and crushed Aleppo pepper. It was like having an iftar buffet except it wasn't Ramadan and neither one of us was fasting but we were starving.

When I dipped a piece of the fluffy mini flatbread into the creamy tahini sauce and chewed, it dissolved into my mouth like water. After a few bites, I decided to dabble into my entree. Once I mixed the lentil rice with the soft chunks of chicken and drizzled the yogurt on top, I fed myself a morsel and immediately,

I felt like Alice in Wonderland. With each bite, there was a rich flavor. Even though the food wasn't spicy, it was scrumptious and flavorful. It tasted heavenly. Mayeena and I savored the taste with each bite. And we were so thankful to Seema for suggesting this place. There wasn't a single item we didn't enjoy. Even their water tasted amazing. And the sauces added a kick to meal. And it was so worth it. Although their service was a little slow, the staff was cordial and attentive.

The entire experience was lit. The food hit home. And I can't wait to go back. If you’re planning to head to Seattle, I highly recommend you make a quick stop at “Tanoor.”
